Autumn Plant Sale

Following the success of the spring plant sale, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are having an autumn plant sale at the TreadLightly EnviroFest on Sunday 22 April.

A huge range of delicious heirloom vegetables will be available and ready to plant now for a well-stocked winter kitchen garden. The plant sale will be in the glasshouses near the ABC Vegie Patch between 10am and 4pm.

The aim of TreadLightly EnviroFest is to build a strong ‘whole of community’ focus on sustainable living within the community and industry. Autumnal Picnic

SUNDAY 15 APRIL 11 a.m.

It is that marvellous time of year again and we are set to visit Pear Tree Cottage in Middleton for our annual picnic, hosted by Lynne Uptin and Clive Crossley.  Come along to the orchard and gain insight into the production of cider and perry and enjoy some rather special tastings of the Red Sails beverages created on site.

The Pinot Shop said about one of the ciders, Red Sails Cider Gold 750ml $18:

“Most interesting and rustic cider made from un-sprayed heritage cider apples. Dr Clive Crossley and Lynne Uptin studied the Breton cuvée method in France and have applied the same techniques here. Amber in colour with characterful aromas of rich apple overlaid with raunchy buckwheat honey. In the mouth it is something quite special - dry/rich apple flavours and a sensationally smooth and clean finish. The bubble is extremely soft and gentle, not at all fizzy. Alcohol 6.5%. Natural fermentation (wild yeast) and no preservatives. Will improve with bottle age.”

A table will be set up in the orchard where we will gather to eat, drink (responsibly) and be merry. This is the opportunity to share some of your own fabulous home cooking with the Slow Food community.

Please bring along whatever you need to serve your unique dish, as well as your own chair or rug, plates, glasses etc.  We will provide an urn, so that you can make tea/coffee.
This is a free event and children are very welcome.
Space is limited and you will need to book to attend this event, R.S.V.P. to slowfoodhobart@yahoo.com.au

Directions to Pear Tree Cottage will be given on confirmation of booking.
